Arthuree Wright was ordained deacon in the Baltimore-Washington Conference (BWC) of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in 1999. She co-chaired the BWC’s Initiative on Children and Poverty before chairing the BWC Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry (2004-2012), and the BWC’s School-Church Partnership Task Force (2014-2015). Later she worked for the UMC’s General Board of Church and Society, and the UMC’s General Commission on Religion and Race. At Gethsemane, Deacon Wright serves as Peace Advocate and convenor of the Emergent Social Justice Ministries. She serves on the Greater Washington District Committee on Ministry and the PGCMLS Board of Trustees.
