The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is a landmark piece of Federal Legislation in the United States that prohibits racial discrimination in VOTING!! It has been 50 years ago on August 6, 1965 that President B. Lyndon signed this piece of legislation! The Voting Rights Act gave African-American voters the legal right means to challenge voting restrictions and vastly improved voter turn out!! To continue with the celebration and to continue to empower OUR people, we will be conducting voter registrations here at GUMC as well as partnering with other churches in the community to support the nomination and election processes for Racial Justice for our People!!
We have persons here at Gethsemane who have taken the training to assist persons to register to VOTE!! Questions see sister Anne White!!
