- “Land of the Free:” A Fourth of July Celebration, will be held on Saturday, July 4th, at First UMC, 424 Main Street in Laurel. The event will include an indoor picnic at 1 p.m. followed by the Patriotic Musical, “Land of the Free,” presentation by the Chancel Choir at 2 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken. - VIDEO COMPETITION: Living Grace is a video competition, a crowd-sourced visual project about contemporary yearnings for Christ. Young adults, ages 18-30, are invited to create a compelling, Gospel-centered one to three minute video story of journey, reconciliation or community. Winners will receive $3,000. The videos should be under three minutes and tell stories that are genuine and truthful, have biblical themes be integrated in a theologically sound way. Video submissions will be accepted May 18-Sept. 1.

- MISSION U: This year’s Mission U, sponsored by the BWC’s Board of Church and Society and the United Methodist Women, will be held July 31 through Aug. 2 at the Marriott Hotel in Bethesda. The dean this year is the Rev. Frankie Revell. The assistant dean is Colleen Cates. This year’s studies will be on Latin America’s people and faith, the church and people with disabilities, and Created for Happiness: Understanding Your Life in God.
